#207: Button-up lowdown

Howdy,

“You afraid of depths?”

Noooo … Confusion. Why?

“Your ‘zipper’ is.”

So, recently I took a restroom pit stop during one of my writing races at a “local” coffee shop—“local,” meaning in our T-Town, not local, not this time, sorry (and kind of also it is what it is, so how sorry are we really …?).

That’s what you do when you get extended hours to work in a coffee shop, take bathroom breaks. Or at least I do. I try to drink a minimum of one large (didn’t say “Venti” so you don’t know where I was for sure) cup of ice water for every coffee or tea I sip or suck down.

So, as a way of stretching my legs and back I make my way to the restroom a time or two during a long session.

All very fascinating and relevant to you the reader, right?

#206: Coyote Point Park

Howdy,

A couple of days ago I briefly mentioned back-to-back major park days for us.

One of the parks we visited as a family over the weekend was Coyote Point Magic Mountain Playground in the Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo, and it was great. Kids had a blast, and it was fairly comfortable for the adults as well.

If you’ve driven into the Bay Area by way of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge at all, you’d recognize the spot as that place where you see all the windsurfers and crazy parachute surfing taking riders unnaturally into the sky.

#204: Free writes contemplation

Howdy,

“5/22/17

It’s been forever since I’ve done a free write. Like forever. Since 5/4/17. Okay, so it’s been this month, but still I’m impressed that I haven’t had to lean on this format in quite awhile to get my words and stay up with the word count pace I’ve set for myself but played out in public.

At the same time, I am happy to be back—just going for it! It’s a nice give and take and support to my process, I suppose. The knowledge that I can hit the FREE WRITES file for a session of quick—quicker!, because I’m starting to get faster, which is so nice and such a blessing and makes this whole commitment and experiment, experience, more than worthwhile: eye-opening and promising—writing and a gathering of words and catch-up against the ever-moving, fast-flowing word count pace that is a monster if you fall behind: but is also a catalyst for achieving so much more than I ever really even thought through or considered realistically. It was just a big number when I started this journey, when I think of it now. That’s what it was: a shot in the future for a number that I didn’t even know how to hit, but I’m using the willingness to work and the working toward consistency to my advantage instead of again falling of the moving wagon and getting abandoned to the dust with my parched projects withering in the waiting.

#203: Ready for church

Howdy,

I can’t claim that this is us — I’m not so finely-groomed handsome as that — but this is how you get your family ready for church!

(I’m not getting the image with this post, so please click on the “just a normal early morning headed to church” right above. It’s worth it.)

#202: Superboy

Howdy,

Though it’s felt more like episodes of Parks and Rec with the way we’ve spent the better part of the last two days in county public parks from San Mateo to Snelling for special events and the boys to play on playgrounds and have experiences with other peoples in other places, this evening we, for the first time as a family, the first time with our boys, we climbed on the couch as a family and watched Superboy.

Superboy, a Smallville Fanfilm, written and directed by Matt Garman. That, Superboy.

The one definitely a few (at least) Academy Awards short, due to its ineligibility as a fanfilm.

We’re partial to it. And it was a fun experience to share with my boys.

To watch bonus features and see our sons’ proud—and slightly confused in wonderment—smiles, you’ll have to come over and catch Superboy on DVD. (See it in all its glory on 13.3 inches—the Hawes family MacBookPro entertainment center. But it’d be worth it.)

But you can get the rest (and more) at Matthew13tube on youtube. I’ve linked to the video for you (both parts), but be sure to poke around on Matt Garman’s youtube, Matthew13tube, as there’s some fun stuff to find.

Pop that popcorn and enjoy the show!

#200: Post 200!—The where I am & where I’m going

Howdy,

One TWO hundred posts, not bad. Not bad at all …

Nevertheless, I’ve still got a ways to go, as you can see with the One hundredth post link above. Two things:

1) I believe my perspective—inward—remains about the same, as far as the push to the end goal.
