Howdy,

It’s true, I do love the rain.

I get a genuine thrill out of simply looking outside and seeing the common, old, dusty ground revived with heaven’s liquid refresher. Surprise dampness a sign for more, a hope, and then, with expectancy, ready, hearing the rain and walking over to a window, or, better, the large slider, and looking again to see puddling up in some places and all surrounding surfaces washed all over.

Circling splashes continuing to pound down in a pleasant way, dancing in pockets of puddles — nature’s hoedown happening on the heels of a barn raising.

Last night, the sound of the storm was nice. A perfect soundtrack for sleeping soundly.

This morning, the look of the “bad” weather was nice. A bother, though, for getting out of bed. Today’s early morning weather made me think, Today would be a perfect Christmas vacation morning for all staying in bed, listening to the rain falling from the clouds keeping the day dark — and sleepy.

Seattle is a neat town, you hear people say, and then you hear a retort of, If you can handle all the rain up there.

I think I could.

I think we could.

This is no anouncement of the Haweses moving to the Pacific Northwest, but I know Sarah would be up for it. I have no doubt of that, since she says without a beat that she loved her time at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia, Canada, and the drippy weather was a plus to her way of thinking. Yes, my lovely, beautiful, daily-coffee-drinking, book-reading, blanket-snuggling, hot-Christmas-cider-drinking, alcove-window-seat-sitting, Holiday-loving, wife isn’t against a few days of rain. Especially when she’s inside with a hot latte in one hand and a new book in the other.

Also, it’s no stretch of the imagination to picture my boys enjoying booting up and puddlejumping. That’s what they do. Find puddles. Splash in them. Boots. Or no boots. Oh boy.

I’ve written on rain before. It’s a big deal in California. And I love it.

I also mention that I like swimming — all sorts of water — and this afternoon I went for a dip in our pool. Outdoor pool. The 54℉ pool. As an ice bath for my back. It’s part of a contrast bath treatment I do with the hot tub. Alternating 102℉ tub with winter outdoor pool. And I went in up to my neck for over a minute. Twice.

Then it started to rain on me.

The rain was nice.
