Howdy,

Only 2,000 words to go! Look at that pace at the bottom of the post: a clean 198K.

198,000.

Incredible. I’m incredibly close.

200,000, here we come.

What am I going to do when I’m done …?

Hah, that’s funny.

Maybe I’ll spend my time flying a drone. Jasper got a perfect starter for his birthday, and we’ve enjoyed the introduction to RC flying. AKA, launching and landing inside the living room. Well, I don’t want to sell us short: launching, hovering, landing.

There’s an auto launch/land button which is great for the kids, as well as a training mode and training attachment (safety cage) around the whole small drone itself.

Also to be fair, Jasper’s learned to spin and turn to go with some forward and back, but you never quite know yet which way you should bob and weave when it’s coming your way. Sarah particularly enjoys being on edge in the kitchen, having to duck when the hovering buzz drifts from the living room. She’s game, but she stays on her toes.

As does Riah. He’s fascinated to watch but also plays a sort of hide and seek and tag, getting close but also staying away, drifting back as the drone sways and squirts above him.

And why shouldn’t he be leery? Young pilot Jasper chopped half a leaf right off a living plant on a wall in our airspace living room.

Ti likes to get his hands on the controls, also. And why shouldn’t he? I do, too. But when Ti’s got it: look out below! And to the front, and to the rear, and to the side. He smiles as he rolls both thumbs wildly, new to the joystick, but liking it.

Jasper has also tried it outside a couple of times, standing out in grass field. His drone is like a kite with a motor, ‘cept it’s not good in the wind. And so far it’s been too breezy when we’ve attempted flight. Doesn’t deter his determination. On Sunday he told me it looked like it wasn’t windy outside, while the tree tops were dancing out the window. “I said, ‘Maybe it’s not too windy outside,’” he defended when I glanced out and referred another look.

It’s going to be fun to watch these boys take flight, and, until his time, Riah’s on the run.
