Howdy,

Vacation Bible School.

VBS.

The kids love it.

The parent volunteers get exhausted.

They love it for their children, but it’s a lot of work.

In our case, it was parent volunteers, but there are also grandparents volunteering and older siblings—brothers and sisters who have out-aged the event, but have gained the maturity to want to help and are kind enough to be there for the younger kids and to have fun with them, which is fantastic to witness—there are spouses and children of church staff and other volunteers who also get roped into helping with the programs, and friends of all these people. People who want to throw an entertaining and educational event for kids to experience a week of spiritual things.

It’s more than just something to break up the summer. But, boy, do you know it’s summer when you’re doing it. It’s hot and sweaty spiritual service.

Anyway, yesterday The Rock Church of Turlock finished their week of VBS and the kids who came, my boys included, enjoyed it immensely. They really had a lot of fun, while learning a ton.

I suppose you could argue that the last statement about learning a ton is subjective, that I don’t really know if that’s true. You could argue that, but I’ve got an inside tip, I’ve got the scoop: my wife was one of the instructors, so I know they learned a ton.

And as far as fun … you could see that on the kids’ faces. Smiles and engagement all around.

It was a good time for them.

Well done, and thank you, to all the volunteers.

Jasper was wondering this morning why there wasn’t VBS tonight, especially since the Sunday service will have a Vacation Bible School theme and a BBQ afterward to celebrate the special week. (Come on down for some food tomorrow.) Jasper didn’t see any reason why there needed to be a break in the action today.

Again, to all the summertime volunteers, well done, and thank you!

Billy
