Howdy,
So, I thought, with it being Sunday and all, I’d do something I’ve done a couple of times but now kind of kick off a Sunday Scripture series idea. Don’t know that it means I’ll do it any certain number of consecutive Sundays or anything, but it is something that I’d like to do from time to time, and I like the title Sunday Scripture series, so I’ll go with it. We can do that, just go with it.
So, (again with “So comma,” which I like sometimes and when I do I just go with it, pushing it hard, to the point, I can really hear it and where I hope that it’s not annoying too many people—the too many part is probably safe, in the sense of hoards of myriads and myriads, thus I just hope it doesn’t annoy you; I’m aware it could be a problem, but I hope not, so … I’m just going to go with it) I went to my ESV Bible app on my iPhone (ESV: English Standard Version—a tremendous one and I’d highly recommend it) with the notion of going for a spin through my “FAVORITES”—favorited verses—which is what I did.
But rather than put too much into the spin through I decided to simply go with the first favorited: Exodus 19:5. Clicking that favorite, I saw that I had highlighted (another app option in the electronic ESV Bible) a passage of verses: four, five, and six.
“‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel’” (Exodus 19: 4-6).
Do you see that? A couple of things. One, God does it. God brings His people to Himself, and, two, He make them (me, you?) His treasured possession. Treasure possession among all peoples? Wow!
Talking about Israel? Yes. But, also, it’s us, now.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you many proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now are are God’s chosen people; one you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles …” (1 Peter 2:9-11a).
Revelation 1:6: “To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
“And they sang a new song, saying, ‘Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God and they shall reign on the earth’” (Revelation 5:9-10).
I believed we’ve previously looked at some of these Revelation verses, recently—they sound fresh—but, man, is it wonderful words of Scripture. None. The. Less.
How about that, though? Treasured, and reigning priests to God in an eternal Kingdom. Not bad, especially when it is God who bears us up on eagles’ wings and draws us to Himself—to be His people. Chosen. Loved. Royal. Freed. Holy. Lit.
His.
Amen
