Howdy,

Well, so much for “Rub some Padre on it.”

The San Diego Padres are rubbing the San Francisco Giants’ slow start in their faces. The Giants are 1-5 to kick off the 2017 season.

Not expected, but that’s baseball.

Also not expected was a THIRD trip to the automobile vacuums in three weeks: three Saturdays straight.

Today wasn’t the whole family (just me) nor vacuuming the whole car (just the front seat and driving console).

I took my vehicle to the vacuums because this week Jasper brought home a wonderful sunflower plant grown from a seed at school in his kindergarten classroom. One day when I picked him up Jasper carried a genuine smile and a cute clay pot with two stems of sunflowers.

He’d decorated the flower pot full of planting soil.

When we got home Jasper informed me that’d the pot had been dumped in my front seat but that he had picked most of it back up. When I checked, I had planting soil/brown mulch on my center console and into the gearshift area and on the passenger seat and on the passenger floorboard and I imagine (it’s not hard, is it?) in the crack between the front seat and center divide and other places ….

When Jasper told me he had picked up the mess he also showed me the flower pot and — amazingly, after looking at the leftovers in my car — it didn’t look too disturbed (so I had figured not a big deal).

The sad part of the story is that the mulch lasted longer in my vehicle than the sunflower made it in our house. We did something wrong, and it wilted overnight.

Today I vacuumed out what remained in my vehicle, pulling into the car wash for a third time in three weeks — like I’ve said, a little déjà vu from something we never do …
