Howdy,
Last week …
Last week was … a rough one, of breaking back into routine.
To be fair, it was not terrible or horrific in any sense of real tragedy. Thus I’m not speaking in competition to or downplaying anyone who endured an actual “rough,” life-altering week involving harm or loss.
It was just a rough adjustment for us: the kind that has you exhausted and wishing you’d gotten more sleep and could get just a little bit more rest, for just minute …
We’re in search of rhythm in our routine.
Jasper returned to school two weeks ago but Sarah returned Monday to full-time following the wonderful Christmas break between semesters. I guess we stayed up too late while she was off or something because getting back on track gave me a beating.
I even fell behind last week on my word count pace for 200K in a year for the first time, but I’m caught back up now, which feels good, feels right — though no doubt it’ll dip again before the year of counted writing concludes, but that’s okay. Pace and endurance. It’s been a good driving force. (Speaking of which, I sort of just noticed: “Wow, Post #96, I’m getting close to Number 100. Yeah!” Not sure yet what #100 will be, but sweet to be knocking on the door …)
But it’s been a fabulous family weekend and with the day off for today’s MLK Day holiday we’ve already got a one-day head start into finding that rhythm of the week. Short weeks are an easier rhythm, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. (Martin Luther King Jr. would be a more than worthy topic for Post #100! That man had vision, faith, and courage — just to get started.)
We haven’t totally defined it yet, but Sarah and I have come to believe rhythms are big things, an important consideration in life and living.
How’s your rhythm jamming right now? Hope it’s humming along for you.
Ours should smooth out a bit, which sounds good to me.
